    Hello Willfish97,

Thank you for sending your query. Here are the Instructions on how to update your Jaybird Freedom's firmware:

IMPORTANT: Make sure you are using a micro USB cable with data capabilities before attempting to update your buds.

    1. Download and Install the Jaybird Freedom Firmware Update Assistant:

    a. Download the file here: www.jaybirdsport.com/dfu/

    b. Run the Jaybird Freedom Firmware Update Assistant file.

    c. Accept any changes the Jaybird Freedom Firmware Update Assistant required by the installer.

    d. Run the Jaybird Freedom Firmware Update Assistant from the Start Menu or Desktop.

TIP: If you can’t find the utility, they can search for it from the Windows Start Menu by typing in “Jaybird”.

    2. Put the Freedom buds in DFU (Device Firmware Update) mode.

Make sure the buds are turned off, then follow the steps on the screen

    TIPS:

-Try using the other hand to hold the battery clip

-Try using the thumb to apply the pressure onto the power button

    1. Click Next to start the update.

    2. Click Finish to close the utility.

    3. After the update, the buds turn off automatically and will be in pairing mode when turned back on. You will need to complete the pairing process as if the buds are new.

Despite following all the directions that have been supplied, I still cannot update my firmware. I keep getting the Driver Error on a "Generic USB Device." I'm using Windows 10.

I've been trying for a week now.

    I succesfully updated the firmware. Just make sure you follow the steps;

    1) Turn off the earbuds

    2) Connect the the external battery to the pc with a good usb cable with data capability.

    3) Insert the earbuds half (just one line) in the external battery. Press firmly on the power switch WHILE pushing in the earbuds completely in the external battery.

If you press the power button too soon it won't work, it will just charge the battery.

But what do the firmware upgrades improve???

    Hi DD207848 and Cowboy_Henk,

Thank you for the update and for sharing your thoughts on this one.

The error means your buds are not getting detected by the PC. Please use a different computer or a computer with a different OS. This will help us isolate the problem.

Jaybird Freedom firmware offers improved Bluetooth connectivity. You can get more information regarding firmware update here:
