    Hi Ianmatthew,

I'm sorry to hear that you can only use the Jaybird Freedom while the charging clip is attached. I'm more than happy to help you with the concern.

Please try a factory reset that can help resolve the issue with the headset.

    1. Firmly but quickly press the power button 8 times and then hold for 5 seconds. Repeat 2 times.

    2. When finished, plug the headset into the charger for 2.5 hours and check the color of the LED status lights.

    3. Power ON the device by holding the power button for 10 seconds or more.

NOTE: Most of the time if the headset turns RED, it will charge and function normally again. Make sure to fully charge the headset when the light is red.

Also, try updating its firmware by installing the Firmware Update Assistant at https://www.jaybirdsport.com/en-us/dfu.html then follow the instructions.

    Hope this helps.

    Warm regards,

    Egie

My Jaybird Freedom did the same thing. It cut off during my run even though the battery was at 80%. Now it won't cut on or charge. I tried all of the things you suggested but it won't even do the factory reset. This is the 4th pair of Jaybirds that I've owned and they've all done the same thing. I chose not to get the Best Buy replacement plan because every time I returned a pair of Jaybirds I got hit with another $29 for the new replacement plan. I only hope the manufacture's warranty is still good on these.

I'm having the same issue.  I got upgraded to a freedom after my second X2 died a few days before the warranty ended.  Worked great for a month then started turning off. Noticed the LED on the controller stopped working.  Now it only works with the charging clip attached.   I sweat a lot on my work outs, I'm thinking its getting into the controller some  how.   I was thinking about getting a pair of X3 since my warranty is up, but after reading the forums, this seem to be a common issue and I'm a bit reluctant,

Having exactly the same issue here too with my Jaybird Freedoms. Turned off while on 80% and now wont come back on. I too sweat a lot during my work out, so think the controller is at fault for letting in moisture...

Same thing happened with my X3's.  Was charged totally at beginning of run, 30 minutes in they died.  I have a green light when I plug them in, but not charging.  Tried factory resets.  Waiting to hear back from customer support.

I've had the same issue. Has anyone applied the firmware update to see if it fixed it?

I've just updated it so will need to see if that works.

I don't have an answer, but after contacting tech support, I am sending them in for a replacement.

Had the same issues. Tried all the suggested steps. Reset procedure briefly worked, but the issues quickly returned again. Tried updating the firmware, but I was unable to get the update to work (you need to be able to turn on the headphones in order to update the firmware). Ended up returning the freedoms and getting a replacement pair.

I am sending mine for replacement. Its obviously a fault with the headphones as its happening with so many users. I'm starting to consider a different brand as it seems the build quality of these headphones isn't really worth the retail price..

The Freedom is a great headphone, just not a great workout headphone since they are not sweat proof as claimed. I believe the X3 will suffer the same fate :(

Mine are barely 8 months old. Anyone have luck resetting or having them replaced?! For the cost you would think they would last longer!

My Freedoms are about 2 months old. I had the same problems. I use mine for running. I called support and tried the reset method. Told them it did not work and they moved me straight to replacing the headphones. I just sent the pictures in and am waiting for shipment confirmation. So far, support has been helpful and spot-on.

@Tim Hicks Did you have to cut the headphone wire?  That seems so bizarre.  Mine actually work with the clip on and I want to use them until the replacements come!  I hate to cut them and then if something happens with them replacing mine and I am stuck with cut headphones.

@Lorraine Hudson yes, I had to cut the cord in order to get them replaced. I have already received the confirmation email that there replacement was approved and it will be shipping. Mine stopped charging even with the clip. It would light up for 3 secs and then stop charging.

Just got my Jaybird Freedoms as a replacement for my X2s yesterday. The charging clip charges but the actual earbuds do not :(

Mine just went out after only 5 months... did the same thing that everyone else is saying happened to theirs. The contacts have this green color on them like they have rusted or corroded. Meaning my sweat has ruined them... So much for sweat proof. I didn't know there was an update. Any instructions on that anywhere? Even though it appears that isn't going to work either? I used to love this brand and I think they are not making as big of quality headphones as they used to. Its a shame because this headphone was a great idea.

I can update the firmware but the headphones are dead anyway.

The fix (at least for my headphones) is to clean the connectors (headphones and charger) with 91% rubbing alcohol. So far it's the only way that I can get my Freedoms to charge.

Update After receiving my replacement freedoms 5 months ago, I’ve been covering the charging ports with tape before doing sweaty work out. So far, I’ve had no issues, except for the occasional lost tip.

Hey I had my headphones for less then a week, and the headphones won’t turn on only the charger port.

Mine worked for a few months and then then would only work with the external battery charged and now won't power on at all. I wrote to the support team and am waiting for a response on the freedoms. I had a pair of X2s before and they seemed to be a lot more sweat resistant.

I used them for a year, now don not light and don not charge when clipped to the charger. I cleaned the contact, try more pressure etc. No turn on, no charge ... are dead. I have also a X and a X2 and they are certainly more sweat proof.

They are gone dude. Mine died after almost a year even though I covered the charging port with tape. I cracked open the control and there was moisture under the power and volume control button. I’d say these are sweat resistant but not sweat proof as they claim. I got a pair of Jaybird Runs. They will probably be my last.

The same problem happened to me and I think it's cause I used it in the bath and even though it didn't fall in water because the room was quiet steamy so, I think water got into it. Thus, I just done the oldest trick in the books and put the earphones in bowl of rice for about 12 hours or so and luckily it started charging again.
